Definition of speaker
Speaker: The speaker is the voice speaking to us in a poem. Even if the personal pronoun “I” is used in a poem, we cannot assume that the speaker is identical with the poet. As a rule we should treat the speaker as a character invented by the poet. The speaker is also sometimes called “persona”.
